What you will do

• Lead the creation of high-end FX, including explosions, fire, water, smoke, and magic.
• Develop procedural templates and reusable tools to optimize production workflows.
• Define FX style, mood, and aesthetics through lookdev and simulation.
• Mentor fellow artists and provide technical feedback to ensure craft excellence.
• Collaborate with supervisors and other departments to integrate FX into live-action and CG environments.
• Conduct R&D to push technical boundaries and stay current with industry trends.

Requirements

• Must be based in or able to work on-site in Auckland, New Zealand.
• 5+ years of experience as an FX Artist in the VFX industry (films, commercials, or games).
• 2+ years of proven experience in a Lead Artist role mentoring other artists.
• Mastery of Houdini, with solid proficiency in Maya and Nuke.
• Deep knowledge of simulation types: fire, smoke, fluids, and destruction.
• Excellent communication skills for guiding and collaborating with teams.

Nice to have

• Scripting skills in Python, VEX, or MEL to automate tasks.
• Knowledge of real-time engines such as Unreal or Unity.
• Experience with Karma or volumetric workflows.
