What you will do

• Define and evolve the frontend architecture to balance current velocity with long-term maintainability.
• Establish engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across the frontend codebase.
• Design and build core foundational systems including component libraries, shared abstractions, and testing frameworks.
• Own the architecture of the real-time multi-player document editor, including conflict resolution and extensibility.
• Mentor engineers through code review, pairing, and architectural guidance to elevate the team's technical bar.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and backend teams to solve complex product problems.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep expertise in TypeScript and React.
• Experience building complex, stateful UIs such as rich text editors or real-time collaborative applications.
• Proven experience operating at a Staff+ level, ideally within an early-stage startup (<100 people).
• Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area for hybrid office attendance.
• Expertise in leveraging AI-powered development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) to multiply engineering output.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated domains such as healthcare, finance, or legal.
• Contributions to open-source projects or frontend infrastructure tools.
• Experience with WebSocket-based real-time systems, CRDTs, or operational transforms.
