Design Engineer (Mobile)

What you will do

• Collaborate with designers, engineers, and product managers to rapidly prototype interfaces, animations, and features.
• Translate UI designs into code, ensuring consistency across platforms.
• Enhance the design-to-engineering handoff by supporting the design system and building reusable components.
• Innovate and experiment with React Native, AI, and other prototyping environments to explore future functionality.
• Act as a technical consultant for the design team, addressing complex UX challenges.
• Contribute to Function’s design system by developing scalable and accessible components.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
• 5-6+ years of mobile-first experience as a Design Engineer or Mobile Developer, ideally within a commercial digital product or tech environment.
• Previous experience developing and scaling design systems/component libraries.
• Advanced proficiency in React Native required.
• Experience with prototyping tools (e.g., ProtoPie, Origami, Figma, Framer) and design systems.
• Strong eye for design, attention to detail, and passion for creating intuitive digital experiences.
• Strong understanding of accessibility standards and platform-specific accessibility behaviors.

Nice to have

• Start-up experience, especially as a founder or early hire.
• Familiarity with health technologies such as Oura, Whoop, Apple Watch, and CGMs.
