TL;DR
BG Prep Artist - Lead (VFX): Preparing and supervising background preparation shots for feature film and television visual effects with an accent on rotoscoping, tracking, paint work, and plate cleanup. Focus on QC, shot strategy, crew capacity, outsource packaging, and improving production workflow quality and speed.
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (Hybrid); candidates must be based in British Columbia and eligible to work in Canada.
Salary: CAD 98,800–106,600 per year for a 40-hour work week.

is a Vancouver-based visual effects studio creating VFX for feature films and television, including compositing, CG animation, pre-visualization, and volumetric digital effects.
What you will do
- Attend show kickoffs and establish shot strategies with the Compositing Supervisor.
- Brief artists with clear annotations, review submissions, and provide technical guidance.
- Coordinate scheduling priorities with the BG Prep Coordinator and Production Manager.
- Support department standards, practices, and overall strategy with supervisors and the HOD.
- Provide artist feedback, manage crew capacity, package and QC outsource requests, and support training.
- Work on roto, paint shots, quick fixes, and workflow improvements when required.
Requirements
- 6 years of feature film or television production experience.
- Expertise in Silhouette and Nuke; proficiency in Mocha Pro and ShotGrid.
- Experience with rotoscoping, spline breakdown and keyframing, motion blur matching, point and planar tracking, and frame-by-frame painting.
- Knowledge of procedural plate cleanup, marker and rig removal, retime artifact painting, and Nuke's 3D environment.
- Basic Linux knowledge, strong communication and time-management skills, and attention to detail.
- Must be based in British Columbia and eligible to work in Canada.
Nice to have
- Degree or diploma in digital or traditional arts.
- Specialization in VFX compositing.
- Experience with Photoshop, Lightroom, After Effects, or photography.
- Understanding of color theory and an interest in photography and film.
