Backend Engineer Intern

TL;DR

Backend Engineer Intern (Backend): Developing and operating scalable distributed services for a high-traffic platform with an accent on backend system architecture and cloud infrastructure. Focus on building resilient services using AWS and integrating Generative AI tools to solve real-world engineering challenges.

Location: Must be based in or able to work in Palo Alto or Los Angeles, California (Hybrid)

Salary: $47 per hour

What you will do

• Collaborate across the engineering organization on the expansion of the core service platform.
• Develop and operate scalable, resilient distributed services on AWS.
• Build large-scale systems capable of handling billions of daily data events.
• Write unit and integration tests to ensure system reliability.
• Apply cutting-edge Generative AI tools to improve feature development and engineering workflows.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a BS/BA, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Scala, Python, TypeScript, or Node).
• Solid foundational knowledge of computer science principles, data structures, and algorithms.
• Ability to work on-site 3 days per week in Palo Alto or Los Angeles.
• Curiosity and interest in applying Generative AI to software engineering.

Nice to have

• Prior internship or project experience working on backend systems.
• Experience with Protocol Buffers, gRPC, Kafka, Flink, ElasticSearch, or Redis.
• Familiarity with AWS services such as DynamoDB, S3, RDS, or ElastiCache.
• Participation in hackathons, open-source projects, or personal coding projects.
