TL;DR

Member of Technical Staff (AI): Developing and optimizing cutting-edge algorithms for post-training large language models (LLMs) with an accent on reward modeling and RL techniques. Focus on driving data collection, building model evaluations, and advancing state-of-the-art model capabilities in reasoning, instruction following, math, code, and agentic tasks.

Location: Hybrid in Mountain View, United States. Employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) of that location.

Salary: USD $119,800 – $234,700 per year (IC4) or USD $139,900 – $274,800 per year (IC5). Higher ranges apply for San Francisco Bay area and New York City ($158,400 – $258,000 for IC4, $188,000 – $304,200 for IC5).

What you will do

• Develop data collection, evaluation, and post-training methods for models.
• Design hypotheses and experiment plans for rapidly iterating on model performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or related technical discipline.
• 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Experience with reward modeling, RL, or other post-training techniques.
• English: B2 required
• Work from a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. at least four days a week if living within 50 miles of the office.

Nice to have

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with 4+ years experience, or Bachelor's with 6+ years experience.
• Demonstrated experience in large-scale AI.
