TL;DR

Technical Artist (Senior+/Lead) (Gamedev): Developing shaders, lighting, and visual tools for pioneering game experiences with an accent on GPU optimization and material libraries. Focus on bridging art and technology, implementing custom engine features, and leading the technical art direction.

Location: Hybrid (3 days a week) or Onsite in Toronto, ON

Salary: $95,000–$150,000 CAD per year

What you will do

  • Partner with discipline leads to establish asset naming conventions and directory structures.
  • Contribute to rapid prototyping of art content, including assets and VFX, to support the Design team.
  • Own the shader creation process and manage the project's shader library.
  • Manage GPU performance by partnering with Graphics and Art teams to ensure target framerates are met.
  • Collaborate with the engine team to enhance features and workflows within a custom engine.
  • Direct and expand the art team as the project transitions from early stages to production.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of game industry experience across console, mobile, handheld, or PC platforms.
  • Expert proficiency in 3D Studio Max or Maya and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Expertise in shader creation using node-based systems, GLSL, or similar.
  • Advanced knowledge of modern lighting techniques, including baked GI and deferred lighting.
  • Production experience with Unreal, Unity, or other AAA engines.
  • Strong experience with scripting (node or text-based).

Nice to have

  • Prior Lead or Sub-Lead experience on mid-sized or large-scale development projects.
  • Experience in the film or television industry.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Substance Designer or physically-based rendering (PBR).
  • Specialized expertise in modeling, texturing, character, environment, or concept art.
