TL;DR

Senior Software Engineer (Database): Designing and implementing query planner improvements, index selection algorithms, and storage engine optimizations with an accent on database internals, execution performance, and scalability. Location: Based in London or US East Coast. The London team requires office attendance three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in the Oxford Street office.

What you will do

• Design and implement query planner improvements, index selection algorithms, and storage engine optimizations.
• Profile production workloads, identify bottlenecks, and ship performance fixes.
• Build new database features, including indexing strategies and execution engine refinements.
• Collaborate with engineering and product to prioritize features users need.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions.
• Review code, engage with the open-source community, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in database internals (query optimization, indexing, storage engines, transaction processing).
• Experience shipping production database systems or significant database research.
• Fluent in Rust and comfortable with systems languages.
• Strong understanding of performance tradeoffs and a track record of shipping reliable, performant code.
• Comfortable making technical decisions with incomplete information in a fast-paced environment and tackling hard optimization problems.
