TL;DR

Privacy Counsel (AI): Advising product, engineering, and business teams on data privacy, security, and compliance requirements across the product lifecycle with an accent on global data protection laws and AI governance. Focus on interpreting and implementing global privacy laws, managing privacy risks, and supporting AI governance programs.

Location: Must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to collaborate in person 2 days a week.

Salary: $225,000–$270,000

What you will do

• Advise product, engineering, and business teams on data privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
• Provide practical legal guidance on global data protection laws, including GDPR, CCPA, COPPA, and HIPAA.
• Oversee privacy impact assessments and proactively identify and address potential privacy risks.
• Develop and maintain privacy policies, internal guidelines, and compliance frameworks.
• Draft, review, and negotiate privacy-related agreements.
• Advise on and support implementation of an AI governance program.

Requirements

• JD and membership in good standing with at least one US state bar.
• 5+ years of relevant privacy counseling experience, preferably at a major technology company, B2B SaaS provider, or top law firm.
• Familiarity with B2C and B2B SaaS, AI, and cloud platforms; experience with international privacy compliance.
• Deep knowledge of privacy, security, and data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
• Experience working with business stakeholders like Product, Engineering, and Security in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent drafting, communication, and negotiation skills.

Nice to have

• CIPP or other privacy certification.
• Experience with industry-specific privacy regulations (e.g., COPPA, FERPA, BIPA, CUBI, HIPAA, AADC).
