What you will do

• Contribute to the development of SIE’s global patent portfolio across Tokyo-based product and technology areas.
• Oversee patent preparation and prosecution work performed by outside counsel.
• Contribute to growing the patent portfolio through innovation sourcing activities.
• Support the Senior Director of Patents in advising SIE leadership on strategic patent-related issues.
• Support and training for legal and business teams in Japan on patent-related issues.
• Coordinate and collaborate with Sony Group Company’s IP department as needed.

Requirements

• Registered Patent Attorney in either United States (USPTO) and/or Japan (Japan Patent Attorneys Association).
• Fluent in written and spoken Japanese and English.
• At least 10 years of patent law experience, with at least 2 years in-house and at least 2 years in a law firm.

Nice to have

• United States (USPTO) registered Patent Attorney, licensed as an attorney in the United States.
• In-house legal department experience managing a large international patent portfolio for a global company.
• Experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with United States patent prosecution and patent licensing practices.
• A track record of drafting and negotiating agreements with an emphasis on patents.
• Intellectual property licensing and litigation support experience.
