Founding Design Engineer, AI Capability Development (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA, with at least 25% in-office attendance required

What you will do

• Build and ship product features that help users develop practical AI skills and measure capability growth.
• Architect end-to-end front-end and back-end prototypes exploring new interaction paradigms, with strong attention to motion, polish, and interaction quality.
• Set technical direction, establish reusable engineering patterns, and operate as the primary technical builder on a small research-focused team.
• Translate research on skill development and human-AI collaboration into production features.
• Shape product strategy and roadmaps while collaborating with Product, Design, Research, and Engineering.
• Communicate ideas and results through technical writing, prototypes, and presentations.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building and shipping web products across the full stack.
• Strong front-end engineering skills with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and CSS, plus interaction design and visual detail.
• Back-end and data pipeline experience with Python, API design, and analytics infrastructure.
• Experience independently driving features from prototype to production and setting technical direction.
• Strong product judgment, research instincts, prioritization skills, and comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience with developer tools, creative tools, learning platforms, or other products focused on user mastery.
• Background in learning sciences, cognitive science, HCI, skill acquisition research, or educational psychology.
• Experience with experimentation frameworks, A/B testing, analytics for capability development, or LLMs in production.
• Published writing, talks, or open-source work related to skill development, human-AI interaction, or product philosophy.
• Experience in research labs, frontier technology companies, or highly autonomous startups.
