TL;DR

Intermediate 2D Unity Artist: Create and implement high-quality 2D art assets for a life simulation and virtual world game with an accent on artistic cohesion, Unity integration, and performance optimization. Focus on developing 2D animations using Unity's native tools, managing workflows with Jira and GitHub, and collaborating with programmers and designers.

Location: Hybrid position with in-person collaboration required at our Toronto office (Queens Quay West), Ontario, Canada, a minimum of three (3) days per week. This is for Ontario-based independent contractors only.

What you will do

• Create high-quality 2D assets (characters, environments, props) in established artistic style.
• Implement 2D art assets into Unity using Sprite Renderer, Tilemaps, and Sorting Layers.
• Develop and implement 2D animations using Unity's native animation tools.
• Manage art production workflows using Jira, GitHub, and Confluence.
• Collaborate with programmers and designers on visual feedback and technical requirements.
• Optimize art assets for performance, memory usage, and visual fidelity in Unity.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional experience as a 2D Artist or Technical Artist in the game industry.
• Expert proficiency with Unity engine's 2D toolsets (scenes, lighting, sorting, scene management).
• Exceptional ability to create high-quality 2D art assets (illustration, pixel art, vectors) and adapt to specific art styles.
• Strong understanding of PBR workflows for 2D and familiarity with Particle Systems and VFX in Unity.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Jira, GitHub, and Confluence.
• Must be an Ontario-based independent contractor.
