Location: Remote from Armenia, Georgia, or Kazakhstan, or onsite in Almaty, Astana, Tbilisi, Yerevan.

What you will do

• Act as the technical owner for a Java-based backend ecosystem.
• Drive architecture decisions for microservices running on AWS.
• Lead modernization efforts and reduce technical debt.
• Design and implement high-performance Java services, working with PostgreSQL.
• Build and mentor a new development team from the ground up.
• Establish effective delivery processes, including CI/CD and release strategy.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional Java development experience.
• Proven experience as a technical lead or senior engineer.
• Strong knowledge of Java, JVM internals, and backend design.
• Solid experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or comparable cloud platforms.
• Ability to lead by example and mentor senior and mid-level engineers.
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience migrating monoliths to microservices.
• Knowledge of container orchestration and ECS internals.
• Experience with high-traffic B2B or SaaS platforms.
• Previous experience building teams from scratch.
