Senior Backend Engineer

TL;DR

Senior Backend Engineer (Backend Development): Design, build, and scale APIs and backend systems powering hirify.global’ ecosystem with an accent on performance, scalability, and reliability. Focus on solving complex challenges related to massive scale, compatibility, and supporting millions of users and creators.

Location: Remote with the UK or Europe

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 (compensation adjusted outside the UK)

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs for mod delivery, installation, publishing, and creator dashboards.
• Ensure services are performant, reliable, and secure at scale with tens of millions of users.
• Collaborate with Frontend, App, and DevOps Engineers in cross-functional pods to deliver end-to-end features.
• Contribute to product discovery by prototyping APIs and validating technical feasibility.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following high standards and processes.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to shared standards across teams.

Requirements

• Location: Remote with the UK or Europe
• Deep experience with at least one backend language (Ruby, PHP, Java, Go, Node.js) and curiosity to learn others.
• Experience designing and building REST and/or GraphQL APIs.
• Solid experience with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL) and familiarity with NoSQL stores (Redis, ElasticSearch).
• Experience with distributed systems, queues, event-driven architectures, performance optimization, caching, and scalability.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails.
• Knowledge of authentication, identity management, and payments.
• Experience with search systems like ElasticSearch and Meilisearch.
• Understanding of gaming ecosystems and experience building tools for creators and modding communities.
