Member of Technical Staff – Pre Training (AI): Building and optimizing foundational AI models and large-scale deep learning systems with an accent on developing algorithms, model architectures, and data mixtures for large-scale training. Location: New York, United States. Employees are expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if they live within 50 miles (U.S.) of that location.

Salary: USD $188,000–$304,200 per year (New York City metropolitan area).

What you will do

• Develop algorithms, model architectures, data mixtures, and scaling laws for large-scale training using a rigorous data-driven approach.
• Drive algorithmic implementations, conduct experiments, and oversee flagship training runs on our in-house large-scale distributed stack.
• Collaborate closely with teams on infrastructure, data, post-training, and multimodality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or related technical discipline.
• 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Proven expertise in areas of interest, evidenced by an exceptional publication track record and significant technical leadership in high-impact projects.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to data-driven decision-making.
• Experience and/or in-depth understanding about large-scale distributed systems.

Nice to have

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 8+ years technical engineering experience.
• Demonstrated experience in large-scale AI.
• Passion about conversational AI and its deployment.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.
