Member of Technical Staff (RAG AI): Design and build large-scale Copilot memory and personalization systems with an accent on leveraging search, embeddings, retrieval, ranking, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Focus on deploying machine learning and LLM applications at scale, driving consistency in monitoring and operations, and navigating ambiguity to deliver solutions effectively.

Location: Must be based in the San Francisco area and in office 3 days a week. Starting January 26, 2026, expected to work from a designated Microsoft office at least four days a week if living within 50 miles.

Salary: $220,800–$331,200 USD per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area)

What you will do

• Design and build large-scale Copilot memory and personalization systems leveraging RAG.
• Apply subject-matter expertise in cross-product features and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Hold accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentor engineers, and provide on-call support.
• Seek out new knowledge and adapt to new trends to improve product availability, reliability, and performance.
• Work in a fast-paced, design-driven, product development cycle.
• Navigate ambiguity and clear roadblocks to deliver solutions quickly and iteratively.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
• Experience coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• 4+ years’ experience building APIs and creating pipelines for large-scale products.
• Must be local to the San Francisco area.
• Required to be in office 3 days a week (moving to 4 days a week starting January 26, 2026, if living within 50 miles of a Microsoft office).

• Master’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience.
• Experience building and deploying machine learning or large language model (LLM) applications at scale.
