Location: Must be local to the San Francisco area and work in the office 3 days a week. From January 26, 2026, employees living within 50 miles of a designated Microsoft office (U.S.) will be expected to work from that office at least four days a week.

Salary: USD $158,400 – $258,000 per year (for IC4 in San Francisco/NYC) or USD $188,000 – $304,200 per year (for IC5 in San Francisco/NYC).

What you will do

• Design and build large-scale Copilot memory and personalization systems leveraging search, embeddings, retrieval, ranking, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
• Apply subject-matter expertise in cross-product features, collaborating with appropriate stakeholders to drive project plans, release plans, and deliverables.
• Hold accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers and monitoring system for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
• Proactively seek out new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance.
• Navigate ambiguity and clear roadblocks to deliver solutions quickly and iteratively, ensuring they reach users effectively.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Must be local to the San Francisco area and work in office 3 days a week.
• English B2 level.

Nice to have

• 8+ years technical engineering experience (or 6+ years with Master’s Degree).
• Experience building and deploying machine learning or large language model (LLM) applications at scale.
• Experience designing and implementing large-scale embedding, retrieval, and ranking systems.
