TL;DR
Senior Development Test Engineer - Mechanisms (Aerospace): Planning, executing, and analyzing development and acceptance tests for flight mechanisms used in hypersonic strike missiles with an accent on complex test stands, instrumentation, and automated test software. Focus on validating hardware through environmental, subsystem, vehicle-level, and flight testing while improving test cadence, data quality, and failure analysis.
Location: Torrance, CA; on-site operations required during critical test campaigns, with extended hours, weekends, and travel as needed.
Company
hirify.global develops and delivers advanced defense systems, including hypersonic strike missiles, in an early-stage, high-ownership environment.
What you will do
Translate system and subsystem requirements into test objectives, acceptance criteria, and verification methods.
Own development and acceptance testing for flight mechanisms.
Design and build test stands with load actuators, instrumentation, and laboratory equipment.
Develop automated software for instrument control, test sequencing, data logging, and analysis, preferably using Python.
Maintain configuration control, data management, and test documentation while improving test infrastructure, automation, and data quality.
Support flight tests and rocket motor static fires as required.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
5+ years of experience developing, integrating, or testing mechanical or electromechanical hardware.
Experience with test instrumentation and laboratory equipment, including DAQs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and sensors.
Experience with load cells, pressure transducers, LVDTs, and encoders.
Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
Experience with environmental testing, including vibration, thermal-vacuum, thermal cycling, and shock.
Ability to work across disciplines in high-ownership, fast-moving environments where hardware is the source of truth.
Willingness to support extended hours, weekends, travel, and on-site operations during critical test campaigns.
Access to export-controlled information is required; employment or contracting is contingent on meeting applicable U.S. export-control access and licensing requirements. Classified-information or restricted U.S. Government site access may also require security clearance, government authorization, citizenship, or other eligibility requirements when applicable.
Nice to have
Aerospace, automotive, defense, or other high-reliability hardware testing experience.
Flight test, range operations, or hardware-in-the-loop experience.
Familiarity with requirements verification, qualification evidence, and failure tracking.
Hands-on machining, wiring, soldering, or rapid prototyping experience.
Culture & Benefits
High ownership, autonomy, hands-on rigor, and systems-level thinking.
Focus on reliability, data quality, test repeatability, and direct failure analysis.
Generous benefits package.
Equal employment opportunity and reasonable accommodations throughout the application and hiring process.
