Junior Statistician (Causal Inference)

Location: Hybrid, with 3 days per week in the Malmö office; commuting is possible during the first 3 months, followed by required relocation to Sweden.

What you will do

• Support the design and analysis of search-ranking experiments, including A/B testing and interleaving.
• Apply causal inference methods to observational search and user-engagement data.
• Analyse confounding factors, selection bias, seasonality, novelty effects, and experimental results.
• Perform hypothesis testing, regression, variance estimation, and statistical analysis of experiment and search-log data.
• Contribute to offline evaluation using click models, exposure models, and position-bias correction.
• Document assumptions and limitations and communicate analytical findings to engineering and product teams.

Requirements

• BS or MS degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Econometrics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Understanding of statistical fundamentals, including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and variance estimation.
• Academic knowledge of causal inference and experimental design, including potential outcomes and Directed Acyclic Graphs.
• Understanding of bias and confounding in observational data.
• Basic experience with Python or R for statistical analysis and data exploration.
• Ability to analyse real-world datasets, interpret statistical results, document findings, explain statistical concepts, and communicate results clearly.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and eagerness to learn, receive feedback, and develop statistical expertise.

Nice to have

• Academic projects, internships, or research involving A/B testing, experimentation, or causal analysis.
• Familiarity with search and recommendation systems and ranking metrics such as NDCG and MRR.
• Knowledge of click models, exposure models, and position bias.
• Exposure to DoWhy, EconML, or CausalImpact.
• Previous internship or part-time experience in search, recommendation, or marketplace environments.
