Senior Azure Cloud Engineer (Azure)

Location: Auckland, New Zealand; New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency required. The role includes on-call participation and after-hours work when required, with a work model prioritizing in-person collaboration while offering flexibility.

What you will do

• Operate, support, troubleshoot, and improve production Azure environments across compute, storage, networking, identity, and PaaS services.
• Execute service requests and changes, manage access controls, certificates, app registrations, service principals, and secret or certificate lifecycles.
• Resolve complex incidents as a senior escalation point and perform root-cause analysis, problem management, backup, disaster recovery, patching, and compliance activities.
• Automate operational tasks with PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python or Bash, and maintain Terraform, Bicep, ARM code, and Azure DevOps pipelines.
• Improve monitoring and alerting with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and KQL while maintaining cost hygiene and configuration standards.
• Work with practice, application, and customer teams to transition solutions into BAU, document operations, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• Typically 5+ years of infrastructure or cloud operations experience, including 3+ years supporting production Microsoft Azure environments.
• Hands-on enterprise Azure operations experience at approximately AZ-104 level, including Entra ID, RBAC, and access management.
• Experience troubleshooting VNets, NSGs, Private Endpoints and DNS, plus Azure Front Door, Application Gateway, WAF, or API Management.
• PowerShell and Azure CLI experience, plus Python or Bash; working knowledge of Terraform or Bicep/ARM, Azure DevOps pipelines, and Git.
• Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and KQL.
• Experience with ITIL-aligned incident, problem, and change management, including on-call support.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104), or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Strong ownership, accountability, communication, documentation, continuous-improvement, and knowledge-sharing skills, with willingness to coach other engineers.

• Microsoft Defender for Cloud and Microsoft Sentinel.
• Azure Arc, Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware, Logic Apps, Service Bus, and Event Grid.
• Experience in New Zealand government environments and with NZISM or similar frameworks.
• Azure Security Engineer Associate (AZ-500), Azure Network Engineer Associate (AZ-700), DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400), HashiCorp Terraform Associate, or ITIL 4 Foundation.
