Associate Director, Operational Data Engineering

Location: Macquarie Park, NSW, Australia; hybrid arrangement with three days in the office and two days remote or from home.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the cross-domain operational data engineering strategy, capability roadmap, information model, and maturity pathway across Network Operations.
• Lead the engineering and lifecycle management of trusted data products across network, OSS, BSS, and cloud domains.
• Establish reusable real-time and batch ingestion, transformation, enrichment, and delivery patterns.
• Integrate operational data with enterprise and operational platforms, including streaming, data lake, and network data capabilities.
• Define and govern data models, APIs, integration patterns, quality, lineage, lifecycle, metadata, security, privacy, and engineering standards.
• Influence senior stakeholders, manage strategic technology and delivery partners, and build a high-performing engineering capability through coaching and knowledge transfer.

Requirements

• Extensive leadership experience across telecommunications, operational data engineering, data platforms, OSS, or large-scale technology environments.
• Experience leading enterprise-scale data engineering capabilities across complex, distributed, and real-time operational environments.
• Strong knowledge of data product engineering, streaming and batch pipelines, APIs, data models, data quality, lineage, and lifecycle management.
• Strong understanding of network and service operational data and its use in observability, analytics, AI, and automation.
• Ability to define capability strategies, engineering standards, and roadmaps and translate them into measurable operational outcomes.
• Ability to lead cross-domain teams and influence stakeholders across Operations, Engineering, Architecture, Data, and Technology.
• Strong commercial, financial, and vendor management skills, including investment prioritisation and value realisation.
• Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and executive stakeholder engagement skills.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Data Engineering, or Technology, or equivalent significant industry experience.
