Scientist II (Membrane Science)

Location: Marlborough, MA, United States of America; full-time, on-site role.

Base salary: $113,000–$163,000 per year, plus potential variable cash compensation and equity for eligible roles.

What you will do

• Develop ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes and related manufacturing processes from concept through commercialization.
• Execute process development, design verification, validation, scale-up, and technology transfer activities.
• Evaluate membrane formulations, process improvements, and emerging technologies to improve performance and manufacturability.
• Design, execute, and analyze laboratory and pilot-scale experiments; operate equipment and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Support validation using DFMEA, PFMEA, IQ/OQ/PQ, control plans, process characterization, and process verification methods.
• Prepare development reports, characterization studies, validation reports, technology transfer packages, and SOPs while collaborating with Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Commercial teams.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline with 2+ years of relevant industrial experience; or an M.S. with 5+ years; or a B.S. with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in polymeric membrane development, membrane formation processes, and membrane separation technologies.
• Experience supporting new product development projects, including process scale-up and technology transfer to manufacturing.
• Familiarity with Stage-Gate product development, design verification and validation, and process validation.
• Working knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, IQ/OQ/PQ, process characterization, and statistical analysis.
• Strong experimental and troubleshooting skills, including independently designing and executing technical studies, making technical decisions, and owning results.
• Ability and willingness to work hands-on in laboratory and pilot-scale environments.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and accountability.
