Principal Architect (AI/ML)

Salary: $144,423.50–$195,396.50 annually

What you will do

• Lead the end-to-end design, development, and delivery of machine learning and Generative AI solutions using Databricks, Apache Spark, SQL, and Python.
• Architect large-scale data engineering and ML/GenAI initiatives across lakehouse platforms, distributed compute, and AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Build batch and streaming data pipelines, data models, ML workflows, multi-agent architectures, reasoning workflows, and tool integrations.
• Establish evaluation, validation, governance, safety, monitoring, observability, reproducibility, and cost-optimization practices for ML/GenAI systems.
• Partner with business stakeholders and product leaders on KPIs, experimentation, A/B testing, prompt optimization, and measurable business impact.
• Mentor L4 and L5 engineers and lead collaboration across data engineering, data science, platform engineering, and business teams.

Requirements

• One of the following: doctorate plus 2 years of experience; master’s degree plus 4 years; bachelor’s degree plus 6 years; associate’s degree plus 10 years; or high school diploma/GED plus 12 years.
• Strong machine learning, deep learning, and Generative AI expertise, including LLMs, transformers, embeddings, and fine-tuning techniques.
• Experience leading production-grade ML/GenAI systems end-to-end and designing scalable architectures, distributed systems, and high-throughput pipelines.
• Expertise with MLOps/LLMOps ecosystems, including MLflow, Kubeflow, Airflow, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Strong system design, architecture, problem-solving, independent leadership, and initiative ownership skills.
• Proficiency with AWS, Azure, or GCP for data engineering, including cloud architecture and cost optimization.
• Ability to mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers.

Nice to have

• Cloud certifications and experience with Apache Spark, Hadoop, and large-scale distributed data processing.
• Advanced Python and modern ML/AI frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, or LangChain.
• Experience with evaluation and validation frameworks, human-in-the-loop systems, safety testing, monitoring, red-teaming, adversarial testing, and synthetic data generation.
• Experience with RAG architectures, vector databases, semantic search, embeddings, vector search, NLP, and knowledge-grounded AI systems.
• Experience with agentic AI frameworks, orchestration, planning, memory management, and tool integration.
• Knowledge of statistical modeling, experimentation design, A/B testing, causal inference, Responsible AI, fairness, explainability, governance, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with Databricks Lakehouse, cloud-native AI/ML services, data modeling, OLAP/OLTP performance tuning, Airflow, and Apache Spark.
