Data Modelling & Engineering Lead (AI/Banking): Owning enterprise data models, business glossaries, pipeline standards, and vendor build quality for large-scale retail banking modernization programs with an accent on real-time mobile banking backends, data architecture, and engineering governance. Focus on auditing production code, validating delivery claims and change requests, investigating technical delays, and presenting engineering decisions to C-level stakeholders.

What you will do
- Own canonical enterprise data models, schemas, and business glossaries across project streams.
- Set engineering standards for pipeline frameworks, code quality, automated testing, environments, and CI/CD.
- Direct senior data engineers in project squads and align adoption of shared components, architecture principles, and engineering patterns.
- Review vendor codebases and audit data artifacts before production release.
- Assure Steering Committee engineering content and independently validate vendor progress and delivery claims.
- Validate engineering estimates and change requests, and investigate whether delays result from code quality or environment issues.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on data engineering and modelling experience, including 4+ years leading engineering standards or platform teams in consultancies or major banks.
- Experience modelling and engineering enterprise data solutions in Retail Banking environments.
- Direct experience building or modelling high-throughput, real-time data backends for consumer-facing mobile banking applications and digital customer journeys.
- Deep expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling, including ERD, Data Vault 2.0, Dimensional/Kimball, and JSON/Avro, across batch and real-time streaming topologies.
- World-class verbal, written, and visual communication skills, including translating complex engineering metrics into executive-ready insights.
- Ability to present to technical and business executives, defend engineering standards under scrutiny, and manage vendor friction constructively.
Nice to have
- Advanced mastery of SQL, Python, PySpark/Databricks, Snowflake/BigQuery, Kafka/Event Hubs, dbt, and AWS/Azure cloud data platforms.
- Experience leading data engineering or modelling initiatives for major banks in the UAE or GCC region.
