Associate Security Researcher (Purple Team)

Location: Remote, limited to candidates residing in the United States. Preference for candidates in EST or CST to align with the team’s morning-heavy meeting schedule.

Salary: $55,000–$70,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Set up security research environments, manage lab infrastructure, and maintain stable research tooling.
• Support Purple Team exercises by simulating threats, documenting detection gaps, and identifying defensive improvements.
• Collect data, analyze logs, and perform initial vulnerability triage for Senior Researchers.
• Maintain documentation for research findings, scripts, and internal wikis.
• Review penetration testing findings and final reports for accuracy and actionable remediation guidance as part of technical authorship and quality control.
• Progress from foundational systems administration and support work toward deeper offensive security research through structured mentorship.

Requirements

• Background in systems administration or IT operations, including experience with servers, networking, permissions, and logs.
• Strong understanding of security fundamentals; Security+, CySA+, or GSEC certification, or progress toward OSCP, is expected.
• Understanding of penetration testing methodology, including reconnaissance, scanning, and exploitation, even without full-time penetration testing experience.
• Must reside in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with automation using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Interest in cloud security across AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience or interest in maintaining a home lab environment.
