Senior Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Modesto, California, US; hybrid telecommute with residence within a commutable distance and travel to company offices, sites, or meeting locations up to 5% of the time

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines and data products for analytical, operational, and business needs.
• Build ETL processes, data models, scalable storage solutions, and data infrastructure across SQL, NoSQL, cloud, streaming, and containerized environments.
• Use AI assistants and agentic tools to improve work quality, speed, scalability, and effectiveness.
• Collaborate with Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams to solve technical challenges and identify automation opportunities.
• Perform root cause analysis, recognize data patterns, recommend solutions, and influence enterprise data practices.
• Provide technical direction to junior team members and support standardized Git and CI/CD workflows.

Requirements

• Master's degree in a listed technical, scientific, economic, or data-related field plus 2 years of product or platform development experience; or bachelor's degree in a listed field plus 4 years; or bachelor's degree plus 5 years; or high school diploma or state-issued equivalency certificate plus 9 years, with increasing responsibility.
• At least 3 years of programming experience in Python and Java.
• Familiarity with at least two of Oracle, HANA, MS SQL, Postgres, Neo4j, and Redshift.
• Ability to write ANSI SQL queries against at least one database.
• Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and DynamoDB.
• Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Airflow, StreamSets, DataStage, Automic, SAP PI/PO, SAP BODS, or MuleSoft.
• Experience with stream-processing systems such as Kafka, Storm, or Spark Streaming.
• Experience with object-oriented or object-functional scripting languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Scala; NoSQL and streaming technologies including MongoDB, DynamoDB, and Kafka; containerized workloads; root cause analysis; and data transformation, workload management, data structures, dependency, and metadata processes.
• Must be at least 18 years old and able to travel to company offices, sites, or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events up to 5% of the time.

Nice to have

• Master's degree plus 4 years, or bachelor's degree plus 6 years, of progressively responsible product or platform development experience.
• Certification in two data engineering technologies or practices, AWS Certified Big Data, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
• Experience with Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, AWS services such as EC2, EMR, RDS, and Redshift, and PySpark or Scala.
• Experience building and optimizing big data pipelines and architectures, analyzing large datasets, and understanding Spark clusters, containers, and streaming infrastructure.
