Director Government Relations - Animal Health

Location: Washington, DC, United States; flexible work arrangements are not applicable

Salary: $190,800–$300,300 per year, plus potential annual bonus and long-term incentive.

What you will do

• Lead federal government relations and policy engagement for the North American Animal Health business.
• Develop advocacy strategies and engage Congress, USDA, FDA, federal agencies, and the administration.
• Lead technology policy work supporting animal identification, traceability, monitoring, and data-driven solutions.
• Coordinate trade policy strategy and relationships with federal agencies, embassies, international bodies, customers, and industry stakeholders.
• Build relationships with trade associations, professional societies, customers, coalitions, and policy leaders.
• Coordinate internal communications, executive briefings, cross-functional policy work, and external consultants.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least six years of relevant experience in the federal government or in a corporation, trade association, or nonprofit organization that develops policy and lobbies.
• Experience in political advocacy, lobbying, policy development, political communications, and messaging.
• Familiarity with the Congressional process and key regulatory processes.
• Strong strategic thinking and awareness of how economic and public policy conditions affect business priorities.
• Excellent relationship-building, networking, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Leadership, teamwork, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• Passion for animal health and well-being and a consistent record of high ethical standards.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree such as a master’s degree, J.D., or DVM.
• Experience with the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Senate HELP Committee, or House or Senate Agriculture Committees.
• Experience with trade issues involving the Office of the United States Trade Representative, United States Department of Commerce, and foreign embassies.
