WordPress Developer

Location: Fully remote from Latin America; working hours must align with US Central or Eastern time office hours.

What you will do

• Build and maintain consumer-facing WordPress websites using WordPress, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, SCSS, jQuery, and AJAX.
• Collaborate with SEO and content teams to develop, document, and implement technical SEO requirements.
• Apply SEO best practices including site speed, mobile-first indexing, and schema markup.
• Optimize code and database interactions for fast, reliable website performance.
• Integrate external REST and/or GraphQL APIs, handling endpoints, JSON payloads, requests, responses, and data through PHP and JavaScript.
• Troubleshoot issues, identify risks, and propose efficient solutions with teammates.

Requirements

• 3 to 5+ years of experience with the required stack.
• Strong frontend development skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, SCSS, jQuery, JavaScript and CSS scoping, and AJAX request and response handling.
• Expertise in PHP, including custom classes, hooks, filters, actions, and troubleshooting.
• Strong WordPress experience with custom post types, custom PHP templates, plugins, themes, built-in functions, and troubleshooting.
• Experience integrating REST and/or GraphQL APIs, including external endpoints, JSON payloads, request/response handling, and PHP and JavaScript data integration.
• Experience with MySQL and efficient database queries using WordPress built-in functions, with attention to lightweight calls and speed.
• At least 2 years of Git experience for WordPress, including Git command line and repository control.
• Ability to identify and defuse potential issues.

Nice to have

• Experience with GA4 and Google Tag Manager, including custom JavaScript events, data layer pushes, and tracking parameters.
• Experience with ACF and Gutenberg.

Hiring process

• Recruiter interview lasting 30 minutes.
• Technical interview lasting 30 minutes.
• Two client interviews: a 45-minute technical discussion with the Director of Engineering, followed by a 45-minute cultural discussion with the Director of Engineering and Lead Product Manager.
