Data Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Rochester, New York, United States; candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Occasional in-person participation is required, and candidates within approximately 35 miles of Rochester may be asked to work from the office more frequently.

Salary: $90,000–$140,000 per year

What you will do

• Build, test, scale, and maintain cloud-native data pipelines, data models, and warehouse structures for SchoolTool dashboards and analytics.
• Develop analytics solutions using Python, Apache Spark, Snowflake, SQL and NoSQL databases, and visualization tools such as Amazon QuickSight, Tableau, or Power BI.
• Deliver complex data solutions from discovery and cleaning through model selection, validation, and deployment.
• Collaborate with product teams, engineers, customer stakeholders, and hirify.global delivery teams; serve as a customer contact when needed.
• Work independently on defined data solutions and contribute to technical design decisions.
• Use AI-assisted engineering practices across planning, development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and workflow improvement.

Requirements

• AS or BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physical Science, Mathematics, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3–5 years of data engineering experience, including implementing a data pipeline for an enterprise application.
• Experience with OLTP and OLAP databases and hands-on experience with serverless platforms such as AWS Lambda and/or AWS Glue.
• Experience with infrastructure as code using AWS CloudFormation and Terraform, plus familiarity with DevOps tools such as AWS CodePipeline, Azure DevOps, or GitLab.
• Strong communication, analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, customer-service, organization, accuracy, initiative, and follow-through skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a collaborative, self-organizing team while asking questions and giving and accepting feedback.
• Ability to use AI to augment expertise and decision-making while retaining ownership, accountability, professional judgment, and responsibility for secure, ethical, and compliant use of confidential information.
