Head of Hardware Engineering (Robotics)

Location: On-site in Watertown, Massachusetts, United States

Base salary: $250,000–$350,000 per year, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Lead the hardware engineering organization responsible for designing and building Tutor’s robots.
• Oversee mechanical, electrical, firmware and embedded, and manufacturing engineering.
• Set the hardware roadmap with the CTO and report to the CTO.
• Grow the organization, hire team leaders, and develop managers.
• Own the delivery of robots that work as designed and build at the required production rate.

Requirements

• Led and grown a hardware engineering organization of 50 or more people and shipped a complex electromechanical product in volume.
• Led mechanical, electrical, and firmware or embedded engineers and can hire and evaluate across all three disciplines.
• Owned manufacturing engineering, or worked closely enough with it to build the team across process, test, fixtures, and design for manufacturing.
• Developed managers leading teams under your organization.
• Worked closely with a technical founder or CTO.

Nice to have

• Experience with robotics, actuators, or motion control.
• Experience leading engineers in more than one country.
• Experience taking a product from first prototype to production at rate.
• Experience working with contract manufacturers and overseas suppliers.
