Embedded Software Developer (IoT)

Location: Remote within Europe, Albania, Poland, Romania, or Ukraine

hirify.global creates software solutions with distributed engineering teams; this project is for an international customer developing IoT-based smart home and lifestyle products.

What you will do

• Design embedded software components and hardware drivers for displays, cameras, sensors, and actuators.
• Develop beverage dispensing logic covering temperature control, pumps, valves, and safety mechanisms.
• Implement secure OTA firmware updates over HTTPS and firmware validation functionality.
• Develop and optimize graphical user interfaces for LCD touchscreens.
• Debug firmware on real hardware, perform root-cause analysis, and conduct unit and integration testing.
• Document technical solutions, support QA validation, participate in sprint planning, and collaborate with architects, security specialists, compliance engineers, and the customer.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of commercial embedded software development experience using C/C++.
• Strong expertise with STM32 and ARM Cortex-M architectures; familiarity with embedded platforms from NXP, TI, or Silicon Labs.
• Hands-on experience with UART, I2C, SPI, and Wi-Fi communication interfaces.
• Solid understanding of MQTT, DNS, DHCP, mDNS, TCP/IP, and UDP networking protocols.
• Experience with FreeRTOS or Zephyr RTOS.
• Experience implementing secure boot, OTA updates, checksums, firmware validation, bootloaders, and firmware update support.
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles for IoT and embedded systems, with strong debugging and troubleshooting skills on real hardware.
• Upper-Intermediate or higher English level required.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, collaboration, independent working, proactive working, attention-to-detail, and engineering-quality skills; ability to balance low-level hardware interaction with system-level thinking.

Nice to have

• Experience with camera integration, image capture, processing, streaming, face recognition technologies, or embedded vision SDKs.
• Experience with FatFS or LittleFS embedded file systems and networking stacks such as lwIP.
• Background in fluidics control systems, including pumps, flow sensors, or pressure sensors.
• Experience working with FPGA- or ASIC-based systems.
