TL;DR
Senior Electro-Optical Systems Engineer (EUV): Developing and owning precision optical and electro-optical metrology subsystems for EUV source characterization, power scaling, and stable operation with an accent on optical sensing, lasers, detectors, signal processing, and optomechanical integration. Focus on photon-budget and radiometric analysis, subsystem qualification, cleanroom testing, root-cause investigations, and integrating multidisciplinary hardware and software into reliable automated systems.

Location: San Diego, California, United States. This onsite position requires candidates to be legally authorized to access controlled technology under United States Export Administration Regulations before starting work.

Salary: $143,063–$209,825 base annual salary.

Company

hirify.global develops photolithography equipment and EUV source technologies for semiconductor manufacturing.

What you will do

  • Define requirements, subsystem specifications, interfaces, performance budgets, and verification plans for optical and electro-optical metrology systems.
  • Develop sensing systems using lasers, illumination and imaging optics, detectors, cameras, fibers, filters, coatings, optomechanics, and signal-processing hardware.
  • Own major metrology subsystems through component selection, supplier engagement, procurement, assembly, alignment, integration, testing, qualification, and release.
  • Perform photon-budget, radiometric, signal-to-noise, optical performance, tolerancing, stray-light, beam-propagation, alignment, calibration, and image- or signal-quality analyses.
  • Develop laboratory test benches, fixtures, calibration methods, test procedures, acceptance criteria, and automated data-analysis tools; execute laboratory and cleanroom validation and verification testing.
  • Lead multidisciplinary integration, troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, technical risk management, supplier coordination, design reviews, and technical communication across engineering and management.

Requirements

  • Experience developing optical, electro-optical, or metrology systems for semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation, aerospace, medical devices, or another precision-hardware industry.
  • PhD with at least 4 years, Master’s degree with at least 8 years, or Bachelor’s degree with at least 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ownership of an optical system or major subsystem from requirements definition through assembly, integration, testing, and verification.
  • Hands-on experience with optical alignment, laser systems, optical test equipment, sensors, detectors, cameras, or signal-detection systems.
  • Experience with optical system design, tolerancing, alignment, calibration, performance characterization, photon-budget, radiometric, signal-chain, and signal-to-noise ratio calculations.
  • Knowledge of lasers, optical sources, imaging and illumination systems, detectors, cameras, fibers, filters, coatings, and optomechanical components.
  • Experience developing test methods, laboratory setups, calibration approaches, data-analysis tools, and documentation for requirements, designs, interfaces, procedures, and verification results.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex multidisciplinary systems, develop and review theoretical models, validate concepts through analysis and breadboard testing, and convert technical concepts into practical engineering solutions.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or equivalent tools; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication, system-level thinking, root-cause analysis, technical ownership, and ability to work independently across optical, mechanical, electrical, controls, software, manufacturing, and supplier teams.

Nice to have

  • Degree in optical engineering, photonics, physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, imaging science, or a related technical field.

Culture & Benefits

  • Multidisciplinary collaboration with engineers, scientists, suppliers, and internal stakeholders on complex technology problems.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance for employees and families.
  • Participation in the company 401k plan.
  • Eight hours of vacation leave per month and 13 paid holidays per calendar year.
  • Equal opportunity employer with reasonable accommodation support for applicants and employees with disabilities.

Hiring process

  • All new hirify.global jobs have a minimum application deadline of 10 days.
  • Hiring includes interviews and an assessment of job-related skills, education, experience, certifications, abilities, and market-aligned compensation factors.
