Hardware Systems Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Austin, Texas; in-person interview may be required at a hirify.global office or hub at the offer stage.

What you will do

• Support end-to-end server product qualification from concept through deployment, covering electrical, thermal, and mechanical design considerations.
• Gather requirements for next-generation servers, evaluate silicon vendors, and select CPUs, memory, disks, NICs, GPUs, and other components.
• Coordinate with strategy, sourcing, capacity planning, engineering, product, performance, and infrastructure operations teams.
• Onboard new server generations into provisioning and fleet-management tools with Site Reliability Engineering.
• Optimize software performance on hardware, deploy firmware updates, triage hardware reports, resolve issues, and maintain automation tools.
• Communicate results through internal talks and blog posts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
• Foundational knowledge or internship/academic experience in compute design engineering, validation, performance benchmarking, debugging, and data-center deployment.
• Interest in managing diverse server fleets at scale, including traffic management, capacity planning, failover, and hardware monitoring.
• Ability to use AI tools and automation to accelerate hardware qualification and improve quality standards.
• Organizational skills and interest in managing cross-functional technical projects and aligning designs with delivery schedules.
• Self-motivation, bias toward action, and ability to drive initiatives in ambiguous environments without close supervision.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
• Knowledge of server hardware, including motherboard, chassis, and thermal designs, plus CPU, memory, and storage technologies.
• Knowledge of Bash, Python, basic Linux automation, Redfish, IPMI, firmware updates, and hardware/software performance optimization.
• Experience debugging server hardware faults and working with sourcing teams and external vendors on hardware qualification.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Git, TeamCity, Jira, or hyperscale cloud infrastructure.
