Ukraine Researcher (Conflict Research)

Location: Fully remote; can be performed from any location with reliable internet. Open to nationals of any country. Minimum availability of 25 hours per week, including possible weekend submissions.

Remuneration: USD 20 per hour.

hirify.global is an independent, impartial organization providing real-time data and analysis on political violence and protest worldwide.

What you will do

• Collect and code political violence and protest events across Ukraine using news, international organization, NGO, and security reports.
• Record incidents in Excel templates and contribute to holistic coverage of events ranging from protests to battles.
• Review and manage datasets to ensure quality, consistency, and reliability.
• Conduct detail-oriented quantitative research and provide accurate data for team use.
• Complete extensive training exercises and a two-hour coding aptitude exercise during the selection process.

Requirements

• University degree in international relations, political science, conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or a related field.
• Fluency in English, Ukrainian, and Russian.
• Familiarity with Excel.
• Experience conducting desk-based research and working to deadlines with limited supervision.
• High attention to detail and ability to receive and incorporate feedback.
• In-depth understanding of conflict dynamics and relevant actors in Ukraine.
• Access to a computer, reliable internet connection, email, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice to have

• Research focus or professional experience in conflict research or peacebuilding in Eastern Europe, or country-specific studies focused on Ukraine.
• Understanding of conflict dynamics and relevant actors in the wider Eastern Europe region and Russia.
• Experience in media monitoring or related areas.

• Fully remote independent consultancy arrangement.
• Flexible weekly availability, preferably Monday through Thursday, with operational needs potentially requiring submissions several times per week and on weekends.
• Initial consultancy period from November 2026 through June 2027, with possible continuation subject to evaluation and funding.
• Work involves reviewing conflict-related media and reading about violent events.
