WASH and Shelter Manager (Ethiopia)

Location: On-site duty station in Melkedida, Dollo Ado, Ethiopia; open to Ethiopian nationals only. Travel up to 80%.

What you will do

• Lead the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of WASH and Shelter activities across the areas of operation.
• Provide strategic, operational, and technical leadership across the full project cycle, including needs assessments, response design, proposals, budgeting, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
• Oversee project teams, manage project budgets, build staff capacity, and ensure programme quality and compliance with NRC standards and donor requirements.
• Conduct and oversee sector assessments, develop concept notes and proposals, and contribute to resource mobilisation, programme development, and strategic planning.
• Coordinate with local authorities, humanitarian partners, communities, donors, and coordination bodies while strengthening accountability and community participation.
• Integrate protection, gender, age, disability inclusion, environmental sustainability, and disaster risk reduction across interventions.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of experience in a relevant senior-level project implementation role.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Supply and Sanitation Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Experience working in complex and volatile contexts.
• Experience in Shelter and WASH programming in a refugee context.
• Experience in donor engagement.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Contextual understanding of and knowledge about the WASH and Shelter and Settlement/Housing sectors and stakeholders in Ethiopia.
• Familiarity with WASH and Shelter and Settlement sector standards across various contexts and target groups.
• Strong communication, analytical, detail-oriented, and project management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in a humanitarian or recovery context is preferred.
