Product Engineer III (UAV Systems)

Location: Petaluma, California, United States; work in an office and manufacturing environment with frequent travel to suppliers, system tests, and customers.

Salary: $91,000–$138,750 per year.

What you will do

• Provide sustaining engineering support for UAV product lines used in military and commercial applications.
• Manage product configuration and change orders in Agile PLM, including engineering documentation, bills of materials, manufacturing procedures, acceptance test procedures, tooling, and test equipment.
• Coordinate product improvements, variants, testing, release activities, and transitions of new products into production.
• Support manufacturing, suppliers, purchasing, planning, quality, program management, and customers in resolving technical and production issues.
• Develop or modify structural components, electro-mechanical assemblies, payloads, ground equipment, launching systems, flight control actuators, and prototype hardware.
• Support design reviews, proposal and report writing, contract review, component obsolescence management, customer failure analysis, and field technical communications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 5–8 years of related experience in a similar role, including engineering design work and support of products in production.
• Lean Six Sigma experience or Green Belt certification.
• Experience with RF, digital, and communications electronics design, electronics manufacturing troubleshooting, PCB layout, schematics, assemblies, and design/drafting/CAD including Altium and ASME Y14 drawing standards.
• Strong understanding of configuration management principles and production assembly requirements, including documentation for the production floor.
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, mathematics, physics, material properties, electronics, systems, and software.
• Ability to integrate across technical disciplines and organizations, including program management, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, suppliers, and customers.
• Proficiency with office software and computer-based productivity tools.
• Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment, sit and stand for extended periods, use computer and telephone equipment, and travel frequently.
• Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR requirements or be eligible for approval of an export license; some positions may require current U.S. citizenship.

Nice to have

• Experience with unmanned air vehicles.
• Experience with Agile PLM data management, product configuration management standards such as MIL-HDBK-61A and EIA-649-B, and structural dynamics problems.
• Ability to solve diverse technical problems creatively, exercise sound judgment, and contribute to project cost and schedule goals.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and take ownership of work products.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
