Senior Software Development Engineer, Payroll Development

Location: Auckland, New Zealand; hybrid Flex work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, and partners; willingness to travel or work on-site with customers as needed.

What you will do

• Align with implementation teams on customer projects to understand technical environments, data, and country-specific payroll requirements.
• Design, build, deploy, test, and roll out production-grade payroll software and integrations in live customer and partner environments.
• Integrate payroll systems with customer data sources, APIs, and identity and access systems.
• Troubleshoot implementation and production issues in real time and act as a technical partner for engineering and business stakeholders.
• Turn implementation learnings into feedback that improves the core product, AI toolsets, and deployment workflows.
• Train Customer Experience and Solution Consulting teams on payroll functionality, deployment processes, troubleshooting, and deployment capabilities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building, shipping, and supporting production-grade code.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5+ years of experience with hirify.global Payroll.
• Experience integrating software with external systems, APIs, and enterprise data sources.
• Ability to write production code in one or more languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, or Java, with experience taking projects from problem definition to shipped solution.
• Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure and modern deployment practices including CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code.
• Strong communication skills and ability to partner directly with customer stakeholders, including non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
• hirify.global Payroll certification is required.

Nice to have

• Experience creating training content or enabling Customer Experience or Solution Consulting teams on technical or payroll concepts.
