Security Data Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; remote applicants in the US considered. Hybrid policy requires staff to be in an office at least 25% of the time, with regular travel to data center sites.

Annual salary: $320,000–$405,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own component-level hardware inventory and chain-of-custody data models, pipelines, change history, and tamper-evident storage.
• Build reconciliation tools, audit-evidence exports, custody checks, automation, and AI agents that reduce recurring manual reviews.
• Develop custody workflows and site- or host-level software for recording receipts, movements, data wipes, and decommissioning while enforcing authorization.
• Build continuous control-monitoring pipelines and posture calculations that determine per-control and per-site readiness against applicable compliance frameworks.
• Implement data-quality checks, source reconciliation, silent-feed alerts, retention controls, and access controls.
• Define schemas and interfaces with security monitoring engineers and build query surfaces and reports for teams, site leads, and leadership.

Requirements

• Production experience designing and running data systems with relational schemas, change data capture, batch or streaming pipelines, and supporting services, including coverage measurement, source reconciliation, silence alerts, and resilience to corrupted or lost records.
• Experience integrating systems outside your control, including inventory tools, ticketing systems, and vendor APIs, while building data models that outlast individual sources.
• Experience shipping software outside a central service, such as host agents, site-local services, or edge collectors, and maintaining correctness in the field; alternatively, experience building metrics used for team decisions and defending them under review.
• Hands-on experience with physical-asset data or security-control data, such as hardware fleets, data centers, supply-chain inventory, asset custody, or security and compliance evidence.
• Ability to read and review other people’s code and build with AI coding agents using Git and code review.
• Ability to own a domain end to end: set the approach, design and build with dependent teams and vendors, and operate the result as a daily-use system.
• Strong SQL skills and strong proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with asset management, supply-chain, or warehouse systems where serialized tracking and custody transfer are central.
• Experience building continuous control monitoring or security/compliance metrics, or producing assessor-accepted evidence against frameworks such as NIST SP 800-53, ISO 27001, or SOC 2.
• Experience with risk or posture scoring that combines control results, findings, and other evidence into decision-making measures.
• Familiarity with data-center hardware lifecycles from receipt to decommissioning and with colocation, cloud or GPU cloud operators, hardware manufacturers, and logistics providers.
• Experience running software on many hosts or remote sites with versioned rollouts and reporting verification.
• Experience building AI agents or automation that replaces recurring manual work.
