Machine Learning Researcher (LLMs)

Location: Mountain View, United States, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays; office attendance required Tuesdays–Thursdays. All candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The role involves access to information subject to U.S. export controls.

Salary: $160,000–$300,000 for early-career candidates, $180,000–$425,000 for mid-career candidates, or $250,000–$800,000 for senior-career candidates, plus equity.

Develops vertically integrated hardware and software systems for training and running large machine-learning workloads and improving AI model efficiency.

What you will do

• Train and optimize large language models for specialized hardware.
• Run quality evaluations and validate numerical results with other teams.
• Build and configure distributed infrastructure for model training and inference.
• Advise on hardware architecture from a machine-learning perspective.
• Co-design hardware through ML experimentation and RTL prototypes.

Requirements

• Strong research track record in LLMs, demonstrated through publications and/or shipped or open-sourced research.
• PhD or equivalent experience.
• Deep expertise in at least one area: reinforcement learning, quantization, or attention and architecture, including long-context methods.
• Excellent software engineering skills, including building and scaling distributed training and inference codebases.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Ability to perform job functions in compliance with U.S. export control laws without obtaining a license from U.S. export control authorities.

Nice to have

• Experience with inference or training optimization.
• Experience with ML–hardware co-design.
• Experience with model evaluations.
