Senior Database Engineer

What you will do

• Provide database support and strategy across the database ecosystem, including production support, upgrades, performance tuning, and disaster recovery.
• Configure and manage replication, analyze and optimize SQL query plans, and improve application queries.
• Enhance database tools, services, scalability, performance, reliability, and uptime.
• Maintain and monitor backup processes, test restorations, and support disaster recovery with systems engineers.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, developers, product managers, and other internal teams to identify system requirements and review technical designs.
• Monitor performance and alerts, predict capacity requirements, protect private data, and establish database standards and best practices for application engineering teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience engineering and/or administering databases.
• Professional hands-on experience building and operating performance-critical applications and databases in both MySQL/Linux and SQL Server/Windows environments.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, including normalization, indexing, and SQL.
• Knowledge of data security and integrity.
• Knowledge of a high-volume SaaS database environment.
• Exceptional verbal, written, illustrative, and diagrammatic communication skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships.

Nice to have

• Experience with student-data privacy frameworks such as FERPA.
• Knowledge of PHP or other scripting languages.
• Experience with NoSQL databases.
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process.
• Recent experience with iPaaS and/or canonical data models.
• Experience leading or contributing to an on-premises-to-cloud migration, including work shaping an AWS cloud strategy.
