Regulatory & Product Counsel (Automotive)

What you will do

• Provide cross-functional legal advice to Engineering, Product, Service, and Compliance teams throughout vehicle development and commercialization.
• Support engineering teams in developing vehicle platforms and products.
• Provide guidance on Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and related automotive compliance and safety matters.
• Address novel legal issues arising from rapidly developing automotive and industrial technology.
• Advise business strategy teams on regulatory matters involving commercial partnerships.
• Provide practical legal guidance across the company as part of a lean legal team.

Requirements

• J.D. from a top-tier accredited law school.
• Active California Bar admission, or ability to register immediately as Registered In-House Counsel.
• 5+ years of relevant experience, primarily in regulatory and product counseling for an automotive company.
• Training at a top-tier law firm, with AmLaw 50 experience preferred.
• Strong background in product liability and safety-related issues.
• Extensive experience with automotive manufacturers or suppliers and strong knowledge of FMVSS and related motor vehicle compliance laws.
• Experience providing solutions-oriented, practical advice to stakeholders.
• Interest in multi-jurisdictional regulatory issues, with demonstrated excellence in analytical, written, and oral communication.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects under deadline pressure.

• Experience in the Automotive, Autonomy, Mobility, Hardware, or CleanTech sectors.
