Sr Engineering Manager - Systems Design (Medical Devices)

Location: Northridge, California, United States; hybrid with onsite work 4 days per week and remote work 1 day per week.

Salary: $150,000–$256,000 USD annually for California locations; actual compensation varies by experience, education, certifications, skills, market conditions, internal equity, and geographic location.

What you will do

• Plan, direct, and implement the design and development of new medical device products and software systems.
• Lead new concepts from initial design through market release, including feasibility studies to determine whether designs can function as intended.
• Oversee investigations and evaluations of existing technologies and guide the development of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes, and products.
• Develop and maintain technical quality assurance, quality control, and reliability systems and standards.
• Maintain documentation throughout research and development and coordinate activities with external suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
• Manage, develop, evaluate, mentor, and coach personnel, including performance management, hiring, promotion, and reward decisions.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree, or an equivalent degree meeting United States H-1B degree requirements for degrees earned outside the United States, and at least 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience; alternatively, an advanced degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience and 5+ years of managerial experience.
• Broad management knowledge sufficient to lead project teams within one department.
• Mastery-level knowledge and skills in a specific technical or professional discipline, with broad understanding of other areas within the job function.
• Experience managing large teams that may include experienced professionals and managers, with responsibility for strategy, business plans, budgets or P&L, performance, and talent development.
• Ability to address complex, difficult, and undefined problems through detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation.
• Ability to communicate with internal and external customers, vendors, suppliers, and consultants and influence across functions and businesses.

Nice to have

• Strong technical people leadership experience with knowledge of systems of systems, including control theory and integrated mobile applications.
• Strong influence skills for guiding teams through complex distributed designs across multiple organizational verticals.
