Associate, CRR & FTR Trading, Market Optimization & Trading (Energy Trading)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid role with office-based employees working from the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Corporate new hires are prioritized near offices in San Francisco, San Diego, Scottsdale, Houston, Denver, or Princeton.

Salary: $140,000–$160,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual cash bonus.

What you will do

• Support the development and execution of CRR, FTR, and congestion trading strategies across ERCOT, CAISO, and PJM.
• Analyze historical and forecasted congestion, nodal prices, transmission constraints, outages, topology, load growth, weather, and renewable generation trends.
• Manage portfolio exposure to nodal price risk through CRR/FTR acquisitions, sales, virtual positions, and other hedging strategies.
• Build dashboards, reporting tools, scenario back-tests, and portfolio risk metrics; monitor P&L, hedge efficiency, collateral, and financial performance.
• Support portfolio optimization, DART optimization, term hedges, CRR/FTRs, and PPA transactions for renewable assets.
• Collaborate with Market Fundamentals, Asset Management, Origination, Development, Risk, Accounting, Settlements, and trading teams on commercial, siting, contracting, M&A, and repower decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of relevant experience, including at least 2+ years directly in power markets.
• Prior experience in energy trading, asset optimization, or market analytics.
• Exposure to ERCOT and CAISO CRR auction tools and Dayzer, UPLAN, or similar transmission models.
• Ability to build or contribute to power fundamental models for pricing, load, generation, flow, and outages using various methodologies.
• Working knowledge of ERCOT, CAISO, and PJM market design, CRR/FTR auction processes, transmission planning, and nodal pricing.
• Strong quantitative, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including the ability to translate technical results into commercial insights.
• Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
• Familiarity with congestion and risk management strategies for renewable and storage assets.
• Working knowledge of predictive modeling using mathematical and statistical methods, energy market risk mitigation, option valuation, and Greeks.
• CRR/FTR activities must comply with corporate and project-level risk policies, market rules, and market protocols; no employment authorization sponsorship is available.

• Advanced degree.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or SQL.
• Exposure to quantitative libraries, stochastic calculus, or option models for deal valuation.
• Familiarity with battery, wind, or solar congestion profiles.
• Dayzer experience.
