Spacecraft Systems Engineer II, Avionics

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Candidates must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Salary: $119,543–$172,673 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Define project scopes and initial requirements with cross-functional engineering teams, guiding avionics designs from concept through prototype and production.
• Develop electrical architectures, system diagrams, and budgets covering power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass.
• Analyze faults and risks, develop mitigation plans, and support Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) or operational workarounds.
• Create and execute verification plans for avionics systems on flight and hardware-in-the-loop hardware, ensuring launch and reentry readiness.
• Oversee Winnebago avionics integration, investigate integrated system issues, and participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist or system operator.
• Design, build, and operate hardware-in-the-loop testbeds and avionics ground infrastructure, including test racks and R&D equipment; improve test automation and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
• Proficiency in programming and debugging with Python.
• Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4-20mA devices, and general test equipment.
• Lawful authorization to work in the United States and U.S. person status permitting access to export-controlled technology without an export license.

Nice to have

• Experience taking vehicle electrical systems from concept through operational production.
• Experience setting up hardware-in-the-loop testbeds, managing configuration control, and conducting system-level tests.
• Familiarity with Unix environments and command-line utilities.
• Experience developing test cases and test equipment for vehicle operating conditions.
• Strong project or program management skills.
• Prior experience as an avionics hardware engineer, FPGA engineer, electronics test engineer, or electrical systems engineer.
