TL;DR
Environmental Test Engineer (Aerospace): Leading qualification and acceptance testing of avionics hardware, including test planning, electrical test-system development, environmental testing, and technical reporting with an accent on instrumentation, thermal, vibration, shock, and thermal-vacuum qualification. Focus on building Python-based test tools, troubleshooting complex electrical and hardware-in-the-loop issues, and resolving test anomalies against aerospace qualification standards.

Location: On-site in Mojave, California, United States; travel as needed, estimated at less than 5%; 9/80 schedule.

Base salary: $79,700–$101,600 for Level I; $91,000–$117,700 for Level II; $108,800–$114,100 for Senior Level; $132,600–$175,500 for Staff Level.

Company

hirify.global develops reusable air-launched Talon testbeds and conducts operationally realistic hypersonic testing at Mach 5+ to support technology validation and national security applications.

What you will do

  • Own qualification and acceptance test planning, execution, analysis, and reporting for avionics components and assemblies.
  • Define verification requirements, test objectives, instrumentation, and success criteria with avionics engineers and environmental analysts.
  • Develop test plans, procedures, reports, and discrepancy or anomaly documentation.
  • Design and support electrical test systems, including instrumentation, harnesses, fixtures, and data-acquisition systems.
  • Develop Python-based scripts and tools for test-data collection, analysis, and limited automation.
  • Support functional, thermal, vibration, shock, and thermal-vacuum testing, including troubleshooting and anomaly resolution.

Requirements

  • Experience in electrical engineering, software engineering, avionics, experimental aircraft, launch-vehicle integration, or another relevant discipline.
  • Experience designing, integrating, or operating electrical test and instrumentation systems, such as NI cDAQ or comparable data-acquisition platforms.
  • Experience supporting environmental test campaigns involving thermal cycling, random vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, or similar testing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, software, instrumentation, and hardware-in-the-loop test issues.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation, including test procedures, reports, and discrepancy or anomaly documentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and relevant experience: 1–2 years for Level I, 2–5 years for Level II, 5–8 years for Senior Level, or 8+ years for Staff Level; an equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with aerospace environmental, EMC/EMI, and qualification standards such as RCC-324, RCC-319, MIL-STD-461, or DO-160.
  • Experience automating test equipment with Python, PyVISA/VISA, SCPI, or comparable tools and protocols.
  • Experience creating or reviewing electrical schematics, test fixtures, cable and harness drawings, and wiring documentation.
  • Familiarity with aerospace electrical hardware, including connectors, relays, wire types, shielding, grounding, and bonding practices.
  • Experience with test-data analysis, post-test reporting, and failure investigation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical challenges, risks, and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and execute against program schedules and business goals.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoW security clearance.

Culture & Benefits

  • Healthcare coverage including medical, dental, vision, and prescription drugs.
  • Paid maternity and parental leave.
