Senior Flight Software Designer (Aerospace)

hirify.global develops optical data relay and on-orbit connectivity systems for spacecraft, supporting real-time space communications, on-orbit compute, and hosted payload capabilities.

What you will do

• Design and develop embedded Linux applications and platform software for space and ground systems.
• Develop flight software supporting spacecraft command and control, telemetry, fault detection and recovery, resource management, and on-orbit operations.
• Develop Linux-based software for Xilinx Zynq MPSoCs, Versal SoCs, NVIDIA Jetson-class hardware, or comparable platforms.
• Own and maintain OpenEmbedded/Yocto build environments, including layers, recipes, system images, SDKs, package configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Design and integrate interfaces between flight and ground software using HTTP APIs, ZeroMQ, and Protocol Buffers; write tests and documentation.
• Participate in design and code reviews, define system architecture with cross-functional engineering teams, mentor junior engineers, and direct improvements to existing software components.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent field.
• 7+ years of embedded development experience in aerospace or a relevant industry.
• Strong software design and development skills, including architecture, algorithms, testing, and debugging.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and experience developing reliable software for resource-constrained, mission-critical systems.
• Strong embedded Linux experience, including application development, system integration, debugging, kernel modules, device trees, and drivers.
• Experience owning and maintaining embedded Linux build systems with OpenEmbedded/Yocto.
• Experience developing Linux-based software for Xilinx Zynq MPSoCs, Versal SoCs, or comparable embedded Linux platforms.
• Experience developing and integrating distributed software interfaces using ZeroMQ, Protocol Buffers, and HTTP APIs.
• Understanding of flight-software concerns including fault tolerance, deterministic behaviour, resource constraints, and operational reliability.
• Excellent communication skills and effective use of Git.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree.
• Experience developing software for aerospace applications.
• Experience deploying and supporting containerized software with Kubernetes on embedded Linux systems.
• Experience with NVIDIA Jetson-class hardware, multi-stage bootloaders, or Python development.
