Executive Director, Clinical Data & Digital Strategy (AI)

Location: Alameda, CA; office-based working conditions with occasional travel of approximately 5%

Base salary: $272,000–$344,000 per year, plus discretionary annual bonus and long-term incentives

What you will do

• Lead the clinical data and digital strategy function in Development Sciences and manage managers, analysts, employees, and contractors.
• Establish standards and architectural principles for data modeling, metadata management, semantic interoperability, ontology governance, and FAIR data implementation.
• Define the future-state digital ecosystem, product vision, roadmaps, investment priorities, business cases, and tradeoff decisions.
• Develop roadmaps for scientific data platforms, metadata capabilities, knowledge systems, and AI-ready data assets.
• Partner with IT, Quality, Programming, Governance, biostatistics, and clinical data management teams on scalable, compliant data standards and digital solutions.
• Set goals, assess performance, mentor staff, define training curricula, and establish programming procedures, guidelines, and policies.

Requirements

• BS/BA degree with at least 18 years of related experience, MS/MA degree with at least 16 years, PhD with at least 15 years, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
• Expertise with Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, vector databases, and cloud-native data platforms.
• Experience writing code in R and Python.
• Experience recruiting, hiring, and supervising analysts.
• Experience authoring SOPs and work instructions.
• Good managerial, organizational, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of FDA regulations, industry standards, guidance documents, FDA GxP compliance, and qualification requirements.
• Understanding of clinical research processes, trial designs, protocols, and analysis plans, with proficiency in data strategy, data lakes, semantic layers, and analytics platforms.

Nice to have

• Experience in oncology and Phase I–III studies.
• Experience enabling machine learning, generative AI, retrieval architecture, and agentic systems through modern data architecture.
