Location Designer (2D Animation)

Location: Remote, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; the downtown studio is available for in-person team building and collaboration.

Expected compensation: $1,450 per week, depending on experience and role requirements. Contract duration: fixed-term contract of approximately 4 weeks.

What you will do

• Design locations in the show’s style in collaboration with the Director and Art Director.
• Provide multiple views, maps, and exploratory designs for locations.
• Create linear and tonal or painted location designs.
• Collaborate with the Art Director and design team to develop a consistent visual language.
• Contribute substantially to the evolution of the show design.
• Communicate and collaborate creatively in a time-sensitive production environment.

Requirements

• Excellent drawing and painting skills, including perspective, interiors, architecture, and landscapes.
• Solid understanding of light, shadow, and colour.
• Thorough understanding of location design and how designs are used through the production pipeline.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, is required.
• Excellent creativity and demonstrated ability to generate innovative concepts and ideas.
• Ability to design within specified proportions and an overall visual style.
• Ability to discuss ideas productively, make decisions, and communicate across a wide range of aesthetic areas.
• Previous show experience is required.

Nice to have

• Experience working on a 2D production.
• Knowledge of modelling locations and 2D layout.
