Data Scientist - GenAI & Machine Learning

Location: Vienna, Austria. Full-time, onsite role.

Salary: minimum EUR 51,134 gross per year under the applicable collective agreement; actual salary depends on qualifications and experience.

What you will do

• Deliver Data Science and Generative AI solutions that create measurable value for internal business customers across Retail, Corporate, Operations, Data Quality, and other banking areas.
• Design, develop, and evaluate predictive models, machine learning solutions, and GenAI applications using LLMs, RAG, AI agents, and emerging AI technologies.
• Manage the full Data Science and AI lifecycle, including business-problem definition, data preparation, feature engineering, experimentation, evaluation, deployment, and continuous improvement.
• Apply evaluation methods and guardrails to make AI solutions accurate, reliable, explainable, and suitable for a regulated banking environment.
• Collaborate with business experts, Data Engineers, Software Engineers, AI Platform teams, and other departments to deliver robust, scalable, production-ready solutions.
• Translate technical possibilities into tangible business outcomes and contribute to international Erste Group projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline.
• At least 2 years of practical experience as a Data Scientist.
• Good understanding of statistical methods and common machine learning algorithms.
• Hands-on experience designing and developing applications using the Retrieval-Augmented Generation pattern, including chunking, embedding, and querying an LLM.
• Good practical knowledge of Python, Spark, and SQL.
• Basic understanding of the banking business.
• Full professional proficiency in English.
