QE Automation Lead (Playwright/TypeScript)

Location: Virginia - Remote; Maryland - Hybrid; Washington, DC - Hybrid. Remote candidates must reside in states where hirify.global or a subsidiary has an established physical presence.

Salary: $117,800-$189,000 annually; eligible for up to 10% annual incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Own the automation strategy and technical direction across multiple QE teams, products, and delivery streams.
• Design, evolve, and govern scalable Playwright and TypeScript frameworks, reusable components, and automation standards.
• Develop, review, debug, and optimize UI, API, integration, end-to-end, contract, regression, and data-validation tests.
• Integrate automated testing, parallel execution, cross-browser coverage, reporting, and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
• Define quality metrics, analyze delivery risk and root causes, and communicate release readiness to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor QE engineers, coordinate distributed delivery, improve shift-left practices, and lead the transition from manual to automated regression.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software quality engineering experience, including three or more automation initiatives led or technical leadership across multiple teams.
• Experience leading, influencing, and aligning distributed QE teams without relying solely on direct reporting relationships.
• Advanced hands-on Playwright with TypeScript or comparable modern automation technologies, including reusable fixtures, page and component models, parallel execution, cross-browser testing, tracing, and reporting.
• Experience building scalable automation frameworks and reusable libraries across UI, API, integration, end-to-end, contract, and data-validation layers.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, object-oriented programming, test design patterns, clean code, maintainable automation, API testing, test-data management, backend validation, SQL, REST, JSON, Postman, Swagger, and OpenAPI.
• Experience testing Salesforce solutions and full-stack applications across front-end, back-end, API, integration, and data layers.
• Experience integrating automation with CI/CD platforms, quality gates, parallel execution, cross-browser coverage, reporting, and failure diagnostics using GitHub or Bitbucket and Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or comparable tools.
• Experience defining quality KPIs, automation coverage, pass rate, flaky-test rate, defect trends, escaped defects, execution duration, and release-readiness reporting.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Zephyr Scale, Git-based workflows, Agile, Scrum, DevOps, shift-left testing, risk-based testing, and the full software development lifecycle.
• Proven mentoring, coaching, technical-review, analytical, prioritization, decision-making, executive communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Working knowledge of security, accessibility, and performance-testing principles.
• Experience in financial services, regulated environments, or high-availability platforms is strongly preferred.

Nice to have

• Python, JavaScript, SQL, Java, Selenium, Cypress, Pytest, Rest Assured, or Cucumber.
• AWS services, containerized test execution, cloud-based test environments, and observability platforms.
• Performance testing with JMeter or k6 and accessibility-testing standards and tools.
• Experience migrating legacy automation suites to Playwright or consolidating multiple frameworks.
• Experience applying AI-assisted testing responsibly to test design, coverage, maintenance, or defect analysis.
• ISTQB, AWS, Agile, or DevOps certifications.
